INTRODUCTION:
As modern medicine advances, the horizon of the Medical Laboratory Technology also expands and the body of knowledge pertinent to the different disciplines widens. This fact, coupled with the reliance of clinicians on laboratory testing to confirm and enhance their diagnostic skills place a great and increasing responsibility on the laboratory professional. It is therefore imperative that the student pursuing Medical Laboratory Technology be given improved quality training to develop the requisite skills to undertake basic clinical laboratory investigations, interprets and communicate results by managing resources under minimum supervision. Considering the competitiveness and increasing demand for biomedical scientists in health care delivery, a well-structured clinical internship experience at accredited health facilities need to be provided. There is also the need to include in the new curriculum some training in the application of principles of safety in the work environment, and the ability to learn new techniques to conform to standard operating procedures. All these will help build capacity for any future national and international certificate programmes.

To provide quality Medical Laboratory Science education and training through creation, presentation, integration, transmission and utilization of health knowledge.
